PROTON FC WIN FAM CUP

19th August 2007 – Proton FC won their first ever FAM Cup last night when they beat Beverly Kota Kinabalu 4-2 in a pulsating final which was played at the Stadium KLFA in Cheras.

Beverly kept up their composure in the first half to restrict Proton to just a 1-0 lead when Fauzzi Kassim slammed home in the 24th minute.

But a pep talk and a change in tactics after the break allowed Proton to go all out for their well-deserved victory.

Fauzzi Kassim added his second goal of the evening off a cross from Ashadi Mohd Yusof in the 68th minute before Ashadi himself grabbed the third goal for Proton from a chip two minutes later.

Beverly pulled a goal back off a penalty from Rezuan Aman Khan in the 72nd minute but that did little to prevent Proton from restoring their three-goal advantage with a drive from Ashadi from some 25metre out.

The frustration for Beverly bore through in the 80th minute when Ronney Edward was red-carded even though they did score their second goal of the evening from Roney Asmadul Bakar deep in injury time for the final scoreline.

Dato' Redzuan Tan Sri Sheikh Ahmad, the deputy president of the FA of Malaysia (FAM) was present to give out the prizes.

Proton hope to make big impression

PETALING JAYA: Newly crowned FAM Cup champions Selangor Proton are hoping to make a strong impression when they make their debut in the Premier League in November.

After Proton's involvement in the game for six years at an amateur level, the car manufacturer has now taken a giant step forward to gain promotion to play in the second-tier of the professional M-League.

The team under the guidance of former Selangor striker Razali Alias, beat Beverly FC of Kota Kinabalu 4-2 in the FAM Cup final at the KL Football Stadium in Cheras on Aug 18.

Yusri Yusuf, chairman of the Proton club, said work would begin soon to chart the team’s fortunes for the new season, which kicks off in November 3.

He said the Proton club has 6,000 members. Ten of their staff are in the squad while the rest are contract players.

"We won't be sitting on our laurels and the message is clear for the players that only the best will get to play on merit."

"Nobody is assured of a place. They have to fight for their places in the team," said Yusri in his address at a high tea to celebrate the team's success at their Centre of Excellence Complex in Shah Alam on Friday.

The company’s managing director Datuk Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir said Proton was serious in their commitment in the professional league and would not be a one-season wonder.

"We are a manufacturing company and we produce quality cars and in the same line we want to produce a strong Proton team."

"In fact, Proton has been involved with football teams such as Norwich in the English Premier League and Western Australian Tigers and playing in our very own professional league is not going to be something strange we are undertaking," said Datuk Syed Zainal.

He said their immediate task was to get the team in place for the challenge in the Premier League.

"We are a global company and we are going to make use of our resources to enable the Proton football team to have an own identity and they would be getting the best possible preparations," said Datuk Zainal, who has said that they were looking at some quality Indonesian buys for the new season.

Proton FC janji gegar saingan Liga Perdana

gambor - Azzuddin Ahmad (tengah) dan Pengarah Urusan Proton, Datuk Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir (kiri) dan Yusri Yusuf ketika melancarkan skuad Proton FC di Pusat Kegemilangan PROTON Subang Jaya, semalam.

SUBANG JAYA – Berbekalkan gelaran selaku juara Piala FAM musim lalu, muka baru dalam saingan Liga Perdana 2007/08, Proton FC tekad ingin memberi impak dengan sasaran antara tujuh terbaik.

Kesungguhan Proton FC tampak serius apabila serta enam pemain Liga Super musim lalu antaranya ketua pasukan Perlis, Nazarudin Mohd. Zain.

Lima lagi pemain yang turut dilamar menyarung jersi Proton FC ialah bekas penjaga gol Kedah, Jamsari Sabian; pemain pertahanan Perlis, Zami Mohd. Noor; pertahanan tengah N. Sembilan, Nizam Jamil; pemain tengah Johor FC, Mohd. Aiman Wong dan penyerang PKNS, Mohd. Fareed Shah Hassan.

Pengalaman "Pemain Lama" Aset Proton FC Bersaing Dalam Liga Premier
