Jul 02, 2025 - FASOmid Musawi has now officially announced as the third import player for Merah Kuning to represent the club in the Malaysia League, as well as international matches AFC Champions League Two (ACL TWO) and the ASEAN Club Championship for the 2025/26 season.
Born in Mazar-i-Sharif, Afghanistan but raised in the Netherlands, where he began his football journey through the youth ranks of Apeldoornse Geheel Onthouders Voetbalvereniging (AGOVV), Apeldoorn. In 2011, he joined FC Twente’s academy, featuring in 31 matches for their U-19 squad scoring 10 goals and providing 3 assists while also making appearances for the club’s reserve team. He later continued his development in the youth setups at Vitesse, Netherlands and PEC Zwolle before transitioning to the senior football team.
Steadily building an international football career, Omid then flew to Australia and signed his first professional contract with Para Hills Knights SC, playing in Australia’s State League 1, with a total of 26 appearances including in NPL South Australia.
The Afghan-Dutch forward expanded his career journey by signing a contract with Selangor FC in October 2024. He was initially featured with the club’s U-23 squad in the Piala MFL, where he made a notable impact with a strong link-up play with his teammates but also has been training regularly with the first team throughout the 2024/25 season. His dedication during training was worthwhile, after finally drew attention from the senior coaching staff to list him in the squad for this season.
On top of that, Omid is also one of the main pillars in the Afghanistan senior squad since his debut for Afghanistan in a friendly against Vietnam on 1 June 2022. As of March 2025, he has earned nine caps for his country. Known for his pace, versatility across the front line, and speed, Omid Musawi is widely regarded as a promising talent for Afghan football.
The 24 years old forward shared about his experience with Selangor FC so far, “Since my transfer last year, from the very first moment I set foot in Selangor FC, I’ve felt a strong connection and I immediately liked the club. I started in the U-23 team, and now I’m proud to be part of the first team. Selangor FC is a fantastic club, professional and focused on development. I believe I can grow a lot here, not just as a footballer but also as a person.”
Omid then expressed his personal target and dedicated it to the fans, “My target this season is to play as many matches as I can, work hard every day, and contribute to the team’s success. I want to help us achieve our goals, and most importantly, I hope to make the fans proud and happy. Their support means everything to us, and I’ll do my best to earn it.”
