MALAYSIA CUP 2019: Selangor March To Quarter Final


JENGKA - Selangor finally booked their spot in the quarter-final of Malaysia Cup 2019 last night after defeating Felda United, 2-0 at Stadium Tuan Abdul Razak, Jengka.

The win also strategically put Selangor as the Group D leader with 10 points, with Melaka United in second place with 2 points short.

During the early minutes of the first half, Felda United made a great attempt towards the Red Giants goal through their import player, Khairul Amri but it went off target.

On the 11th minute, Felda United almost get their first goal after Thiago Aquino’s header almost find the back of the net, before it was punched out by amazing save from Khairulazhan Khalid.

Selangor then tried their best to absorb the pressure and starts to plan their opening goal against the host.

The effort was proven fruitful as Ifedayo Olusegn manage to finish off the chances created by Endrick dos Santos in the 15th minute to put Selangor ahead.

Entering the second half, Selangor approached the game in a more structured and disciplined way.

However, the counter-attack by Felda United almost gives them the equalizer, however the shot from Hadin Azman only touches Khairulazhan’s goal bar before bounced out of play.

Felda United's dream to find the equalizer shattered when K.Prabakaran’s cross was headed into their net by Khyril Muhymeen in the 72nd minute.

The nightmare of Felda United continued as in the 87th minute, the Brazilian defender, Thiago Aquino was given the marching order after receiving his second yellow card of the night.

Kedudukan kekal 2-0 hingga tamat permainan dengan kemenangan berpihak kepada Selangor.

The 2-0 scoreline remained unchanged throughout the matches, confirming 3 invaluable points for the Red Giants.

The results also booked Selangor a spot in the Piala Malaysia quarter-final against Perak, this 22nd September in Stadium Perak, Ipoh.
