MATCH REVIEW: Red Giants Scored Late To Rescue A Point (CIMB Liga Super 2020)

Selangor's mission to collect 3 full points against UiTM FC was not successful after they had to share the spoils after recording a 3-3 draw in a goal-laden match at the UiTM Stadium Shah Alam, last night.

Selangor coached by Michael Feichtenbeiner as the interim Head Coach started fiercely from the starting whistle of the game by launching several dangerous attacks towards UiTM FC.

The effort paid off when Ifedayo Olusegun wisely capitalized the opportunity after receiving a pass from Sandro Da Silva to put Selangor ahead in the 24th minute of the game.

The Brazilian playmaker continued to cheer Selangor camp by doubling the scoreline for Selangor by placing a long shot from outside the penalty box in the extra time of the first half action to make the current position 2-0.

Shocked by that position, the Varsity Boys squad coached by Frank Bernhardt continued to change the rhythm of their game for the second half.

They did not have to wait long after Gustavo Almeida managed to score the first goal of UiTM FC in the 47th minute due to a corner kick to the right of the Selangor goal.

The goal clearly motivated UiTM FC players to continue to push the Selangor fort and once again Gustavo marked his name as the scorer after he managed to finish the cross from Rabih Ataya in the 58th minute.

Only 4 minutes later, it was Rabih Ataya's turn to punish the Selangor defense after he cleverly placed the ball from outside the penalty box beyond the reach of Selangor goalkeeper, Khairulazhan to make the score 3-2 for UiTM FC.

Shocked by the current position, Michael Feichtenbeiner made 5 changes in the second half with K.Sarkunan, Rufino Segovia, Taylor Regan, Sandro Da Silva, and Ashmawi Yakin replaced by Aliff Haiqal, Tamil Maran, Khyril Muhymeen, Sean Selvaraj, and K.Prabakaran throughout the game.

Despite trailing towards the end of the match, Selangor's efforts to press UiTM's defensive line became fruitful when they were given a penalty kick after the referee ruled there was a handball incident in the final minutes.

Ifedayo calmly completed the penalty kick before the final whistle was blown by the match referee and for a 3-3 draw.

"I am satisfied with the action of the players in the first half, we dominated the game and led by two goals. However, I commend the fighting spirit of the players when they are 2-3 behind and we will improve the weaknesses in terms of defense for the next match," said Michael during the post-match interview.

The result means Selangor remained in the 8th position of the league by collecting 11 points from 9 matches, 12 points behind the league leaders, and 5 points above the relegation zone.

Selangor is scheduled to face PDRM at the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium, Cheras on 3 October 2020 for the next CIMB Super League match.
