MATCH REVIEW: Hat-trick From Ifedayo Olusegun Completes The Red Giants' Glorious Night (CIMB Super League 2020)

Selangor squad ended the CIMB Super League 2020 campaign in style after beating Felda United FC 6-1 at the UiTM Shah Alam Stadium, last night.

Selangor interim manager Michael Feichtenbeiner made several changes to his starting line-up with the return of captain, Taylor Regan and Syahmi Safari from injury and also listed goalkeeper Tauffiq Ar Rashid as well as young player Ahmad Zikri Khalili who made his first appearance in the league this season.

Still fresh from the big 7-0 victory over PDRM last week, Selangor started fiercely by leading the game as early as the 13th minute through Brendan Gan who cleverly passed the offside trap after receiving a through pass from Sandro Da Silva before he managed to fire a shot through his left foot beating the Felda’s goalkeeper, Mohamad Muhaimin.

Selangor, which was seen to dominate the ball, almost doubled the position a few minutes later, but Sandro and Ifedayo failed to take advantage from Syahmi Safari's cross from the right side.

Felda United who occasionally attacked managed to equalize through a goal by Danial Amier Norhisham who managed to fire a shot with his left foot in the 33rd minute of the game.

Felda's joy did not last long when the unmarked Ifedayo put Selangor back in front a few minutes before the end of the first half action after receiving a pass from Sandro Da Silva.

Ifedayo continued to be fierce by scoring Selangor's third goal through a penalty kick after the match referee, Fitri Maskon found Brendan Gan was pulled by Felda’s player, Fadhil Idris in the 62nd minute.

Eight minutes later, Selangor extended their dominance with a fourth goal through a wonderful free kick by Sandro Da Silva and the Brazilian import scored his brace to make it 5-1 in the 78th minute.

Ifedayo completed a glorious night for Selangor and himself by successfully creating a hat-trick through a powerful shot two minutes before the end of the game, taking his total tally to 12 goals and in the best position to win the golden boot award for this season.

The 6-1 position remained until the final whistle and the win put Selangor up to fourth place in the league for a while as the nearest challenger, Terengganu FC (TFC) will go down to play their match the following Sunday.

Asking Michael after the match, he was happy with the performance displayed by the Selangor players.

"Another big victory was recorded tonight. I am happy and satisfied with the improvements of performance and transition showed by the players ", he said.

Selangor will continue the 2020 campaign by preparing the team for the Malaysia Cup which is expected to take place at the end of October.
