Rocky Road For Selangor Piala Malaysia Campaign

The Selangor team was drawn against Melaka United for the first round of TM Malaysia Cup 2020 on 2 November.

In contrast to the previous edition, a total of 15 teams involving 10 Super League teams and five Premier League teams will compete for the championship and will be played in a knockout format.

Michael Feichtenbeiner, the interim Selangor head coach, thinks that all teams have the same opportunity to win the title.

"In the knockout round, all the teams are difficult to predict because all the teams have the same opportunity, but I am confident the players will show their best performance because this is what we need to do to advance to the quarterfinals," said Michael.

Although it is quite difficult to train according to the set SOP, the fitness shown by the Selangor players at this time gives a little relief for Michael to devise a strategy in order to face Melaka United this weekend.

"We are not able to do contact training and it is very difficult to deal with, but we have to follow the prescribed SOP and find the best solution for the players," added Michael.

"We are very lucky because all the players are in good fitness so far, hopefully, no injuries will occur and they can focus fully on the match against Melaka United soon," he explained.

Not only that, the Red Giants also were forced to host their home match elsewhere outside Selangor.

Hang Jebat Stadium was chosen as the host venue against Melaka United because football activities in the state are still not allowed due to undergoing CMCO (Conditional Movement Control Order) by the National Security Council (MKN).

The selection of the location also received an explanation from the Selangor FA Secretary-General, Dr. Johan Kamal Hamidon who revealed several factors why it was chosen.

“We cannot play in Selangor or Kuala Lumpur because PKPB is still in force here. Venues in other states have technical problems as they are being repaired. Hang Jebat Stadium is the only option we have for good stadium and field conditions,” explained Dr. Johan.

The Selangor team is scheduled to play against Melaka United this upcoming Sunday, at 9.00 pm for the first round of TM Malaysia Cup 2020. Good luck Red Giants!
