Giants Gunning For ABK20

Earlier this week, the Malaysian Football League (MFL) has announced the list of nominations for the National Football Awards (ABK20) and a total of five individuals from Selangor FC have been listed for four categories which will take place on 30 December.

The four categories are: -

Best Midfielder: Syahmi Safari and Brendan Gan
Best Goalkeeper: Khairulazhan Khalid
Best Striker: Ifedayo Olusegun
Best Head Coach: Michael Feichtenbeiner

After being the acting Selangor 2020 head coach for four matches (CIMB Super League), Michael Feichtenbeiner thanked the team and expressed his excitement when he was listed as the Best Head Coach candidate this season.

“I am happy to be nominated in the 10 Best Head Coaches of ABK20. As far as I understand, there are some other coaches from the Premier League also listed, so I think they (MFL) may take into account the performance based on my match with Selangor 2 once," explained Michael.

“I have handled the first eight Premier League matches with Selangor 2 and the last four CIMB Super League matches with the Red Giants main team. So, in total I have handled 12 matches”.

"This nomination was taken as a result of the performance of both the coaching staff and the players of both teams. Praise should be given to them," added Michael.

Apart from Michael Feichtenbeiner, Brendan Gan also had the opportunity to share his joy after being nominated for the ABK20 Best Midfielder category.

"I am very excited to be nominated in the ABK20 Best Midfielder category. I have worked hard throughout this season even though it was a difficult season due to the Covid-19 pandemic that hit the world, ”explained Brendan about his debut season with the Red Giants.

"I would like to thank my teammates for their support during my first year here. We have worked hard and together this season as a team," said Brendan Gan during an interview with Media Selangor FC.

For the record, the Malaysian-Australian hybrid has scored four goals and created one assist in 11 appearances for the Red Giants this season.

In line with the Covid-19 pandemic and the Conditional Movement Control Order (PKPB), the ABK20 organized by the Malaysia Football League (MFL) will be held virtually.

In terms of the selection of winners, 70 percent of the votes will be judged by a professional panel and the remaining 30 percent will be from the votes of the supporters.
