Selangor Vows To Paint The City Red & Yellow

Selangor FC will continue the Super League 2021 campaign against Kuala Lumpur City FC (KLCFC) this Saturday at the MBPJ Stadium at 9 pm.

For the record, the last competitive Klang Valley Derby meetings between the Red Giants met The City Boys was in the 2019 Super League match where Selangor FC beat KLCFC 2-1 as a result of Ifedayo Olusegun's opening goal in the 36th minute and Sandro Da Silva who converted a penalty kick in the dying minutes.

According to Selangor FC Head Coach, Karsten Neitzel, the team will look forward and strive to grab all three points this Saturday.

"The defeat from the last game did not break the team’s spirit. The coaches and players will continue to look forward and make improvements for the upcoming match against KLCFC," said Karsten.

“The injury of Selangor FC midfielder, Halim Saari is very unexpected. He is an important player for the team. However, we have to look forward and so does he.”

Despite admitting that the loss of Halim Saari was deeply felt, Karsten believes that Selangor had a good squad depth and have a formidable line-up of players capable of filling the vacancy.

"Selangor FC has potential players to play in the position left by Halim and I truly believe they are capable to step in and fill the role," explained the German head coach.

"We have played against KLCFC during the 'The Derby' friendly match before. There is no doubt, they are strong opponents and have some interesting players but Selangor FC will focus on getting 3 points from this match."

Apart from Halim Saari who suffered a ligament injury (ACL) during the match against Terengganu FC last Tuesday, some of the Selangor FC players are still plagued by injuries such as Nik Sharif Haseefy (ankle injury), K. Sarkunan (knee spasm), Brendan Gan (ankle injury) and R. Dinesh (left hamstring).

The latest position of the Red Giants in the Super League 2021 chart is at 4th place with three points accumulated as a result of one win and one loss, while KLCFC is in 6th place.
