Aliff Haiqal Lau: I Appreciate The First Team Experience

It is the dream of every footballer to play in the highest league of professional football in their own country and it is even more wonderful if that dream is successfully achieved at a young age.

Whether you realized it or not, the Selangor FC (SFC) team is one of the teams in Malaysia that lists the most number of players under the age of 23 in the main squad among the teams competing in the 2021 Super League with 9 people.

Out of the nine young players, seven of them are the fresh faces promoted from the Red Giants’ feeder team, Selangor 2 into the main team since December 2020 to play in the Malaysian League tournament.

The seven players include Premier League 2020 local top scorer Danial Asri (21), midfielder Aliff Haiqal Lau (21) and Mukhairi Ajmal (20), central defender Jordan Ayimbila (20) and Sharul Nazeem (22), left-back Ahmad Zikri (19) and goalkeeper, Sikh Izhan (19).

Aliff Haiqal Lau is one of the hot prospects who has been trusted by Selangor FC head coach Karsten Neitzel to play in all five Super League 2021 matches before the league rested for a while to make way for the national squad's preparations.

For the record, so far Aliff has played 258 minutes and has been in the starting line-up for two matches, and has often created dangerous moves for the Red Giants squad, even providing an assist against Sri Pahang FC for Selangor’s 3rd goal.

According to Aliff, he feels that the opportunity has given positive effects on him and he will continue to give his best in every upcoming match.

"The experience is a very positive one for me especially when the Red Giants head coach, Coach Karsten believes in my abilities and gives me the opportunity to play with the senior players of Selangor FC this season," explained Aliff.

"Out of those five games, there are many things I can learn and my goal is still the same which is to always strive to play with 110% every time I play."

However, Aliff did not hide his feelings that he always wanted to improve himself in order to help Selangor restore their glory days in Malaysia and the Asian football stage.

"I will work harder to become a better player from time to time for the benefit of myself and the team. I also hope that my teammates and the management continue to remain positive and strive to achieve the objectives of Selangor FC together," he said.

This effort to empower potential young players is part of the long-term plan of the SFC management in making this club a sustainable club, in addition to crafting great players with our own football DNA.

Selangor FC hopes that Aliff and all other young SFC players can take advantage of the opportunity given to continue to mature in their game and can help restore the glory days of the Selangor team.
