Brendan: Young Lads Add Balance To The Team

Selangor FC will resume the second round of the Super League 2021 tonight against the East Coast giant, Terengganu FC (TFC) at the MBPJ Stadium, Kelana Jaya at 10pm.

For the record, during the first round, The Turtles team clinched victory at home against the Red Giants with a 3-1 result.

Karsten Neitzel, Head Coach of Selangor FC does not want to see the past continue to haunt his players, but he is aware of the advantages possessed by the Black & White team and believes in the ability of his players, despite losing several key players due to injuries.

"The previous defeat for me is a thing of the past. There is no doubt that they are a good team and very disciplined. However, I believe we have made enough preparations for tonight's match," Karsten explained.

"While there have been some injuries and suspensions of key players, the available players are capable of being in the starting line -up. I have confidence in them and we have to give our best and earn these 3 valuable points," he added.

Tonight, two more Selangor 2 players will be listed and will be on the path to have their debut with Red Giants main squad. They are Shivan Pillay, defensive midfielder cum Selangor 2 Captain and Saiful Iskandar, winger.

Brendan Gan, the captain of the Selangor FC team saw the promotion of young players into the main squad has added to the stability of the team with their good performances.

"All the young players promoted from the Selangor 2 team are very impressive for us (senior players). This is an advantage when we have a development team that is able to give good performances in the Liga Premier," said Brendan.

"However, more experienced players must guide them and keep them focused on every game. This is the key to playing with young talent."

"In the dressing room, I told them, I don't see them as young players anymore. They are already part of the first team players, so they have to work to stand up and be a man," the skipper explained.

As for the players availability, the Red Giants lost the services of local prolific striker, Shahrel Fikri due to an injury to the inside of his ankle during the recent match against Sri Pahang FC.

In addition, Nik Sharif Haseefy (ankle injury), Halim Saari (ACL), Wan Zack Haikal (right knee injury), Tim Heubach, Hakim Hassan (ankle injury) and Safuwan Baharudin also could not be listed due to injury.

Selangor's young centre back, Sharul Nazeem also could not be listed due to suspension after being sent off against Sri Pahang FC, earlier this week.

SFC is currently at the fifth spot in the Super League 2021 with 19 points accumulated as a result of five wins, four draws and three defeats, while Terengganu FC is the league’s first runner up. Tonight's victory will ensure that Selangor FC leap frog to 4th place in the league, overtaking Penang FC only by goal differences.

Hopefully, Selangor FC will win three full points tonight to grab a better position in the league chart before the short league break. Let’s win tonight, Red Giants!

Demi kebanggaan.
