Coach Michael: It's Selangor DNA, Not 'German DNA'

While the league is on a break to make way for the national team to play in the 2022 World Cup & 2023 Asian Cup qualifiers in Dubai, UAE, Selangor FC coaching staff is currently reviewing the team's performance and going through a series of discussions to strengthen the DNA structure of Selangor football.

Michael Feichtenbeiner, SFC’s Sporting Director expressed his appreciation for the commitment shown by all the Red Giants’ coaches at all levels in implementing the vision into their approach.

"In general, the relationship and cooperation between the main team Selangor FC, Selangor 2, the president squad, and the youth squad are amazing. I am happy with the commitment, willingness, motivation of all coaches and team staff in working together with one common goal, to give their best to the club," said Michael.

"While this league is on a break, we are actively in discussion to improve and get the best results for each team according to the DNA mold that has been set."

"This is also the club's initiative to improve the quality of the game at all levels and to develop local talent to the best level. It has become one of our main goals to produce more young players who are ready to play with the main team," he explained.

During the interview, Michael also voiced that the DNA applied in Selangor FC was specially compiled for the Red Giants team and it was not the "German DNA" as what had been advertised by the media all this while.

"Speaking of DNA, there are a number of journalists who keep using the word 'German DNA' to the DNA that we want to implement in Selangor FC. This is inaccurate because the DNA structure of Selangor football is according to the direction of this club and it is not the same as 'German DNA'," stressed Michael.

“To fully follow the‘ German DNA’ or of any European team as a whole is not the best way as each team has differences in terms of its own strengths and weaknesses, yet we can learn many new things from their approach,” he explained.

The DNA of Selangor football has also long been carefully planned and not something that is taken entirely from any existing team. It not only covers the way of the game and the pattern of training, but it also involves the mentality set for each player as well as a more comprehensive football development program from the grassroots level.

"Before drafting the DNA structure of Selangor FC football, there were a lot of discussions to see how we want to play and how we would play, while at the same time, we are aware that these things will take time," explained Michael.

"The main goal will still be focusing on the Red Giants to achieve victory for each game. How will we do it? The answer is through the full implementation of the mentality, style of play, check and balances that are currently in motion."

"Selangor FC wants to produce its own local players and to provide young players who are ready to play in the main team. Therefore, to achieve this objective, it must be done in detail, in every aspect such as sports science and others," he added.

"There will be an ongoing improvement process because there are many aspects of modern football that are constantly innovating producing new discoveries. We must be open-minded and see how modern football works to continue the success of the DNA of Selangor FC," he said before concluding the interview.

Selangor FC hopes that the coaches and players will continue to be committed to the success of the DNA structure of Red Giants which will be the soul of this team for a long time. Slowly, we are refining the team in the hope to return to the Asian football stage.

Further developments on the Selangor FC team will be updated and informed from time to time.
