Know Me Better: Harith Haiqal

Harith Haiqal Adam Afkar is a young player from Selangor FC 2 who managed to make several appearances with the main team this season and was announced last week to be promoted to the senior team for the 2022 season.

Harith’s talent in football was spotted by the National Football Development Program (NFDP) officials while he was playing for his school’s under-12 before joining the Mokhtar Dahari Academy (AMD).

The Klang-born player was a striker at the beginning of his football journey, but his talent in handling the defense line as a central defender started with the AMD team and shines in that position up until now.

Being one of the main players of the national under-18 team in 2019, Harith became one of the AMD players who signed his first professional contract with Selangor FC after graduating from high school.

He then managed to be listed with the Selangor FC 2  team after displaying an impressive performance during the three cornered match against the other young Red Giants player handled by Michael Feichtenbeiner at the end of 2019.

Harith's talent and calmness helped him become a pillar player of the Selangor FC 2 team in his first Premier League competition alongside central defensive partner Sharul Nazeem, who was the captain of the 2020 season.

After gaining numerous experiences  last season, he took on the responsibility of being the team captain during the 2021 Premier League season, handling the centre back well which eventually earned him a call-up to play with the main team as a substitute wearing the number 55 jersey in four games.

Apart from his achievements with Selangor FC this season, he has also been one of the core players of the under-23 national team that emerged as Group J champions of the qualifying stage after winning 7 points from three games against Laos, Mongolia and Thailand in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia last October.

Two years of playing with the Selangor FC feeder team has definitely matured Harith Haiqal's gameplay. Next season, he will join the main team in the highest level of competition in Malaysia to get better exposure.

“The purpose of Selangor FC 2 was to provide exposure and experience to players like me. We are still young but we have been given the opportunity to face more senior and experienced players. This, to some extent, helped me mature my overall gameplay during matches over time, "said Jebeng, his nickname in the locker room.

"Alhamdulillah, my chance to play with the first team of Selangor FC has arrived. I will always give my best as I always have before. I will not waste this opportunity. Please wish the best for me," he added.

Selangor FC congratulates Harith Haiqal and wishes him success for the 2022 season with Selangor’s first team. Hopefully, he will continue to show excellent performances in the Malaysian football scene. Good luck, Jebeng!
