OFFICIAL : Samuel Somerville Is RED!

Red Giants officially announced today that Malaysia-England born Samuel Somerville, 27, has joined us as the newest goalkeeper for the upcoming Malaysian League competition for 2022.

Hailing from Farnborough, England, he started making a name for himself in the Malaysian League in 2016 at the age of 21. More commonly known among friends as Sam, he began to get widespread attention while at Penang FC after establishing himself as one of their core players after being promoted to the Super League 2021 following their 2020 Premier League championship success win.

He was rewarded with his first national call-up, wearing the Malayan Tigers jersey in May 2021 following an impressive campaign with his club in the Super League that season.

Sam sees Selangor FC as the next destination for him to achieve success together for the 2022 season.

“When you talk about football in Malaysia, I think Selangor FC is one of the first teams to be mentioned.

"So, I understand how big it means to play for this club. I know Selangor FC has high ambitions to achieve success next season and it's just like what I want.

"We want to achieve victory together,"

Before concluding the interview, Sam expressed how meaningful it is for the team to get the support of the fans during the highs and the lows. He hopes that The Red Giants fans will continue their unwavering support of the team next season.

Selangor FC welcomes Samuel Somerville to the Red Giants camp and hopes he will perform well and display competitiveness for the Malaysian League next season.

Good luck, Sam!
