The national youth squad has safely arrived in Phnom Penh, Cambodia to face the 2022 ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Under-23 Championship from 14 to 26 February.

On February 8, Brad Maloney, the gaffer of the national under-23 squad, called up four young Selangor FC players, namely Sikh Izhan Nazrel (goalkeeper) and three defenders, Harith Haiqal, Zikri Khalili and Azrin Afiq to join the team.

Apart from them, three players who went to the training camp, namely two Selangor FC 2 defenders, namely Faiz Amer and Fahmi Daniel and Selangor FC Presiden's team midfielder, Fakrul Iman also managed to qualify to join the under-23 squad to Cambodia.

The country's young squad has been drawn in Group B in the AFF match against Myanmar (February 15), Laos (February 18) and Indonesia (February 21) at 5pm.

The three group champions and one best group runner -up will advance to the semi -finals on February 24 while the final is scheduled for February 26.

However, yesterday the young Indonesian team withdrew from the AFF competition because some of their players were confirmed positive for Covid-19. This means that team B will only compete between Malaysia, Myanmar and Laos.
