Updates : 2022 AFC U23 Asian Cup


The national youth squad will continue to fight for the country in the 2022 AFC U23 Asian Cup in Uzbekistan from June 1 to 19.

Brad Maloney, the gaffer of the national under 23 squad, has called up nine young Selangor FC players, namely Mukhairi Ajmal, Harith Haiqal, Zikri Khalili, Azrin Afiq, Quentin Cheng, Fahmi Daniel, Faiz Amer, Danial Asri and Syahir Bashah to strengthen his team for this tournament.

The team will depart on the 27th of May from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to Tashkent, Uzbekistan and will undergo centralized training for four days before the tournament begins.

The country's youth squad was drawn in Group C on February 17 against South Korea (June 1), Thailand (June 4) and Vietnam (June 7). The Young Tigers need to finish the group stage as one of the top two teams in the group to qualify for the next round.

The tournament has a total of 16 countries participating from all over Asia and is divided into 4 groups consisting of 4 teams for each group. The champion of each group and the top 4 teams from the group runners up will qualify for the knockout rounds of the 2022 AFC U23 Championship.
