Jun 21, 2022 - FASSeven goals were scored by Selangor FC in a commanding team display enroute to grabbing all three points against Sarawak United FC for the Super League 2022 match at the MBPJ Stadium last Sunday.
According to Michael Feichtenbeiner, Head Coach of Selangor FC, was proud of the Red Giants players, "I am very proud of the enthusiasm shown by all the players because they were still chasing goals despite leading the match comfortably.
"Despite losing as many as 11 players due to their responsibility with the national team, the spirit shown in this match was very encouraging even though the team trained together as a full squad only for a few days," said Michael.
There were a few interesting takeaways that can be highlighted from the #SFCSWU match :-
- Team captain Brendan Gan returns back in action!
After almost half a season being unable to play with his teammates, Brendan Gan made his first appearance this season by scoring Selangor FC's first goal as early as the seventh minute of the match. Despite playing for only 45 minutes, his presence is seen to have given a huge impact, especially in ensuring that the team remains organised throughout the first half.
- Caion's first Super League hat-trick with the Red Giants.
The team's striker showed his attacking prowess by completing his hat-trick in the 45 ', 75' and 88 'minutes of the match. Not only was Caion a good finisher, he was always heavily involved in the team's attacking being the focal point by opening up a lot of space for his teammates providing opportunities for them to score.
This was also Caion's second hat-trick in Selangor FC's famous red and yellow. His first hat-trick was in the FA Cup match against Harini FT.
- Aliff Haiqal opened his scoring account!
In the 91st minute of the match, the young player who did not play for almost half a season due to injury, scored his first goal with the first team. Apart from opening his scoring account with Selangor FC, he also managed to grab an assist to help Caion secure his first Super League hat-trick.
In addition, Hyuri Henrique scored his fourth goal of the season with the Red Giants in the 23rd minute. Besides that, Norhakim Hassan who came in to replace Hyuri, also scored his second goal of the season in his 51st appearance with the team.
- Seven goals were assisted by seven different young players of the team.
The young Red Giants players- Quentin Cheng, Mukhairi Ajmal, Hein Htet Aung, Sharul Nazeem, Syahir Bashah, Aliff Haiqal and Aliff Izwan, all recorded one assist each. All of them performed admirably despite half of them only training for a few days with the team.
- The defensive line deserves to be praised for their rock solid display too.
The big win was not just about the seven goals scored but also the hard-earned clean sheet from the excellent performance of the defenders. Yazan Al-Arab, Sharul Nazeem, Fazly Mazlan, Quentin Cheng and Zikri Khalili defended well and provided good cover in front of goalkeepet, Khairulazhan Khalid, by breaking the attack of Sarawak United FC players throughout the match.
Selangor FC is very proud of the team's achievements and expects this good momentum to continue until the end of the season. Congratulations Red Giants!
Before the match started, the players also paid tribute to the late Husni Idrus, with a minute of silence and also wore a special tshirt during warm up with the number 7 that was worn by the player of the Selangor FC President's team, who passed away on 25 May 2022.
“Ya Allah Ya Tuhanku ampunilah dia, rahmatilah dan muliakanlah kematiannya, lapangkanlah kuburnya, jadikanlah syurga sebagai ganti tempat tinggalnya dan berikanlah kesabaran untuk ahli keluarganya.”
Demi Kebanggaan!
