LS11 Match Review : Selangor FC vs Penang FC | Hard-Earned Victory

Selangor FC collected three valuable points last night that will continue to instill confidence in the team to compete in the Malaysian Super League 2022.

Yesterday's #SFCPEN match has added some gloss to the existing statistic record of the Red Giants for this season and some important facts can be highlighted, such as:-

1. The right substitutions have impacted the game that contributed to Selangor FC’s victory.

The inclusion of Shahrel Fikri, Hein Htet Aung and Syahir Bashah has added to the sting of the Red Giants team especially on the offensive side.

The presence of Hein Htet Aung has shattered the opposing team’s defensive wall and it has opened up more space to make attacks in the second half of the match.

Shahrel Fikri, a player who always worked hard to regain his game pattern, managed to open a scoring account this season in minute 73rd of the match by Alex Agyarkwa's beautiful pass and beat the opposing goalkeeper.

Then in the 79th minute, Syahir Bashah, a familiar new name for Selangor FC supporters this season, scored a shot from outside the box as soon as he came in to replace the team captain, Brendan Gan. This is his first goal in the Super League and his second goal record with the Red Giants.

2. Samuel Somerville’s first ‘cleansheet’ in the 2022 Super League

Samuel or more friendlier with Sam performed well in yesterday’s #SFCPEN match. He saved Selangor FC's goal from the opposing team's attempts.

As a result of good discipline from the defensive line and Sam's efficiency in front of the goal, this is Sam's third 'cleansheet' with Selangor FC this season, the other two are from the FA Cup competition.

3. Excellent action by the Selangor FC defenders

The cooperation and good understanding between the two center backs, Sharul Nazeem and Yazan Al-Arab, assisted by two young players who played excellently as right back, Quentin Cheng and left back, Zikri Khalili in completing the disciplined 'back four', has helped the team to break the attack especially the ‘counter attack’ attempt of the opposing team.

4. Alex Agyarkwa continues to perform brilliantly in midfield

Alex has played an excellent role in helping the team by breaking the opposing team’s attacks as well as channeling the ball forward to help the Red Giants ’attacking side. As a result, he managed to record an assist with an excellent pass to Shahrel Fikri to get the team's first goal in this match.

Selangor FC congratulates the team and hopes the team will continue their excellent performance in the next matches. Keep fighting, Red Giant!
