DENNIS BEKKING APPOINTED AS NEW TECHNICAL DIRECTOR OF SELANGOR FC

Selangor FC has appointed Dennis Bekking as the new Technical Director as the Club prepares for next season. His appointment is to be considered a key strategic role and in line with the Club's aspiration to continuously build a strong foundation for the future.

After being a player at Go Ahead Eagles, he spent his academic days in football education at the KNVB Academy which has earned him several qualifications such as KNVB Coach Instructor, UEFA A, and Academy Director Pro before furthering his studies doing a Masters in Sports Directorship at the University of Salford in Manchester UK, focusing on Leading High Performance Organizations and Innovation & Change.

Bekking held several positions throughout his professional coaching career before. Starting at PEC Zwolle, he held positions from Head Coach of different age groups to Head of Youth Department and Head of Scouting. After his time at PEC Zwolle, he joined FC Twente to again coach several different age groups before being appointed as their Academy Director. After two terms of seven to eight years at PEC Zwolle and FC Twente, he was then approached and appointed as a Sporting Director at Go Ahead Eagles and was responsible for the entire club setup from first team to academy. In 2019, he joined Akademi Mokhtar Dahari (AMD) as the Academy Director. 

“His vast experience in the Netherlands as a Sporting and Technical Director and good understanding of Malaysian football from his time as AMD Director will help him introduce and integrate modern football methods to our coaches and further develop the talent development pathway at Selangor FC. His passion, commitment and personality will definitely bring positive changes and create a high-performance culture and environment amongst Selangor’s FC development teams”, said Dr Johan Kamal Hamidon, Chief Executive Officer of Selangor FC.

Bekking is excited to start his new role at Selangor FC. He shared, “Selangor FC has managed to successfully identify and recruit young talents over the past few years and realises it doesn’t stop at recruitment. Getting in these young future prospects drives the need for a proper youth development pathway from U18 to the first team. I am looking forward to further professionalising this pathway together with the coaches and staff at Selangor FC”.  
The former FC Twente Academy Director will oversee all technical matters surrounding Selangor U23, Selangor U20, Selangor U18 and the Selangor State Sports School football teams. He will be responsible for developing the Club’s football philosophy and oversee the strengthening of the sports science department, coach education and recruitment and development of young players. 
Selangor FC would like to welcome and wish Dennis Bekking the very best and believe he will continue to strengthen and elevate the Club’s football development project. He will effectively begin his role at the club on the 1st January 2023.
