Brendan Gan, Faisal Halim, Quentin Cheng, Sharul Nazeem, and Mukhairi Ajmal have been called up to the Harimau Malaya central training camp to prepare for the 42nd edition of the Pestabola Merdeka Championship, which will be held in Bukit Jalil National Stadium from October 13 to 17.
Pestabola Merdeka was once a prominent competition among Asian nations. This season will feature three countries that are ranked higher than Malaysia, namely Palestine, Lebanon, and India, in a knockout format.
On October 13, Malaysia will take on India. If they lose, Malaysia will play in the third place decider; if they win, Malaysia will play in the Final; both games will take place on October 17 at Bukit Jalil National Stadium.
Mukhairi Ajmal became one of the young players on the final call-up list for Harimau Malaya, expressing his desire to show the best performance from his experience throughout this season.
"Alhamdulillah, once again, I was given the opportunity to be with the national senior squad this year. As a player, there is nothing else but to give my best at every opportunity given. I will repay the trust of the coaching staff, gain as much knowledge as possible, and use the experience that I have to give the best performance for Malaysia," according to Selangor FC's key player, Mukhairi Ajmal.
In addition, Khuzaimi Piee, Haiqal Lau, Fazly Mazlan, Samuel Somerville, and Harith Haiqal are on the 'Standby' list for the training camp, which will start on October 6, 2023.
Meanwhile, the other Selangor FC players will start training at the Selangor FC Training Centre starting next week to prepare for the next Super League match. Stay tuned for updates about the team on the Gergasi Merah social media page from time to time.
Selangor FC wishes the national team success in the Pestabola Merdeka 2023 tournament. Good luck, Harimau Malaya!
