Selangor FC, often known as the Red Giants, completed the 2023 season of the Malaysian football league by qualifying for the 2024/2025 Asian stage. Under the leadership of DYTM Tengku Amir Shah Ibni Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Al-Haj as club president for five years, the Red Giants camp's progress and successes improved from season to season.

Selangor FC managed to compete in three competitions this season: Malaysia Super League, FA Cup, and Malaysia Cup. Selangor FC finished second in the Super League with 61 points from 26 games (20 wins, 1 draw, 5 defeats), completing the team's main goal of qualifying for the AFC Champions League 2 in 2024/2025. Tan Cheng Hoe's team defeated Sri Pahang FC 4-0 in the Round of 16 of the FA Cup, then won Negeri Sembilan FC 3-1 in the Quarter-Finals before losing in the Semi-Finals. White in the Malaysia Cup, the 'Red Giants' beaten PDRM FC 6-2 on aggregate before being defeated by Terengganu FC 1-3 on aggregate in the Quarter-Final round.

Throughout the season, the first team played in 33 matches, won 23, drew two, and lost eight. The defensive line recorded 12 clean sheets, 11 in the Super League and one in the FA Cup.

Furthermore, the squad scored 86 competitive goals in the 2023 season, at an average of 2.6 goals per game, while conceding 33. The season's biggest winning streak is seven games in a row, while the season's longest losing streak (without a victory) is merely two games.

Among the scorers who have contributed 86 goals are the Top Scorer of Super League 2023, Ayron Del Valle with 25 goals; Top Local Scorer in the Super League, Faisal Halim 13 goals; Yohandry Orozco 11 goals; Boakye-Yiadom and Mukhairi Ajmal six goals; Brendan Gan and Noor Al-Rawabdeh five goals; Harith Haiqal four goals; Sharul Nazeem three goals, Izwan Yuslan and Rauf Salifu two goals; and one goal from Haiqal Lau, Danial Asri, Safuwan Baharudin and Yazan Al-Arab.

Yohandry Orozco led the goal assist chart with 12 assists, followed by Faisal Halim 11, Brendan Gan 10, Ayron Del Valle six, Mukhairi Ajmal and Quentin Cheng four each, Noor Al-Rawabdeh and Boakye-Yiadom collected three, Alexander Agyarkwa and Norhakim Hassan two and one from Haiqal Lau, Fazly Mazlan, Hein Htet Aung, Yazan Al-Arab and Zikri Khalili.

At the same time, among other interesting figures this season are both Selangor FC goalkeepers, managing to finish 12 games without conceding through seven Super League games from Samuel Somerville and five from Khairulazhan Khalid (four Super League and one FA Cup).

In terms of playing minutes, this season Head Coach Tan Cheng Hoe has given faith to almost all the senior and young players in the team. A total of 14 players have played more than 1,000 minutes, namely, Faisal Halim 2,409 minutes, Ayron Del Valle 2,371 minutes, Quentin Cheng 2,347, Sharul Nazeem 2,289 minutes, Noor Al-Rawabdeh 2,286, Yohandry Orozco 2,219, Fazly Mazlan 2,017 minutes, Safuwan Baharudin 2,008 minutes, Brendan Gan 2,003 minutes, Mukhairi Ajmal 1,827 minutes, Khairulazhan Khalid 1,639 minutes, Samuel Somerville 1,561 minutes, Alexander Agyarkwa 1,513 minutes and Harith Haiqal 1,081 minutes.

In addition, this season, four young players have been entrusted to make their first appearance, namely Rauf Salifu, Ruventhiran, Faiz Amer and Muhammad. At the same time, the good performance of the 19-year-old player, Izwan Yuslan, has attracted attention and earned him a call-up to the Malaya Tigers for the first time this season.

Among the personal achievements this season is that Izwan Yuslan has been listed in the MFL Cup Player of the Year category and Harith Haiqal, a young defender who has stood out this season in the Malaysian Football scene, has been nominated in the Young Player of the Year category in the recent National Football Awards 2023.

Among other individual achievements, Faisal Halim managed to maintain his position as one of the Top Local Scorers in the Super League with 12 goals despite not being able to play with the team in several matches. Likewise Ayron Del Valle, he has booked the title as the Top Scorer in the Super League since match week 20th despite only being here for one season.

Overall, this season's improvement can be seen to help the team reach the big target of supporters and clubs to play on the Asian stage next season. Hopefully the effort to become a more advanced and competitive team will continue in the Red Giants camp from time to time.

Demi Kebanggaan!
