Aug 20, 2023 - FASSelangor FC qualified for the 2023 Malaysia Cup Quarter Finals with an aggregate score of 5-3 despite losing in the second leg match against PDRM FC at the MBPJ Stadium, Kelana Jaya yesterday.
The players did their best to look for more goals but failed not for lack of trying as we had numerous attempts on goal. We got the early goal scored by Yohandry Orozco's after being put through on goal by a sublime pass from Noor Al-Rawabdeh in the 25th minute of the match, however, in the end, we were narrowly defeated 1-2.
According to Tan Cheng Hoe, Head Coach of Selangor FC, yesterday’s result was a lesson for the team.
"I think this was a disappointing performance. Every player has to be responsible for this defeat. I hope the players realise that whoever we face, we have to always be mentally and physically ready.
"If we look at the first half, we were quite poor in terms of ball possession, besides also lacking in focus and communication with each other. Although we were able to score the first goal, we failed to control the tempo of the game after. In the last minutes of the game we were a bit complacent, and because of that, PDRM FC managed to take advantage and nicked in a goal in the end. This is a lesson for us.
“However, the important thing is that the team qualified to the next stage. I take full responsibility to help and ensure the players get back to their best before the next match starts," hoped Tan Cheng Hoe.
From yesterday's #SELPDRM match, a positive takeaway was:-
Yohandry Orozco's consistent performance
He has been consistently excellent in recent matches. Orozoco has scored three goals in three consecutive games. His goal in the 25th minute yesterday was his second goal in the Malaysia Cup, making it his seventh goal so far. Click to read about how he felt about being crowned MoTM before.
